Smart LTE Gadget Soon!

Previously, I posted an article about  the all new BayanDSL, and now Smart Communications will be launching this week a mobile LTE (3GPP Long Term Evolution) with a speed of up to 6Mbps/subscriber and they will call it Smart Evolution.

3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE), is the latest feature in the mobile network technology tree that produced the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies. It is a project of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The LTE specification provides downlink peak rates of at least 100 Mbps, an uplink of at least 50 Mbps and RAN round-trip times of less than 10 ms. (source: wikipedia)

LTE has a much higher bandwidth capacity unlike the current 3G networks that all of the telcos provide, so this could help solve problems like slow 3G connections. It’s not yet clear though how their new LTE offering will position against the current 3G network. LTE USB will be provided for subscribers to hook up to the service.

Research shows that LTE can easily do between 50Mbps to 100Mbps, Smart Evolution can only offer subscriptions between 4Mbps to 6Mbps to the subscribers, these should have a price range of Php1,200 - 2,000 I think.

3Mbps At Php899 With Bayantel

BayanDSL is offering 15GBcap plan for Php899 a month and it’s up to 3Mbps. I’m sure a lot of you have seen those big billboard ads while plying the roads of Metro Manila. If you will notice, that same monthly fee is equivalent to their 768Kbps plan but with unlimited bandwidth, and so if you think you are not that heavy internet user, you’d be better off with the capped plan.

However, if you think 15GB isn’t enough, the 768Kbps plan suits for you for the same price, that’s two (2) choices between two plans at the same price point.

Alternatively, Smart Communications also have this new broadband product which they will call Smart Evolution, for me this is the most promising wireless broadband product offered in the country today. For detailed information please see my blog article on this link.

Smartphone is Out! Superphone Is Here!

With the continuous evolution of the gadgetworld today, like Smart Evolution, LG Philippines will release their new flagship Superphone, the LG Optimus 2X next month, although they did not give an exact release date but they’re already preparing for the nationwide launch this May 2011.

Interestingly, Samsung will also launch the Galaxy S2 next month. That should be an interesting battle between the two.

Samsung Sued By Apple Over Copied Design

People from Cupertino filed a lawsuit for Samsung Electronics Co., saying that Sammy copied the design and some user interface of their iPad/iPhone for their Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets.

From Apple:

“Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.” 

The Galaxy S and the iPhone 3GS has similarities with the design and packaging not just that, it has also application icons like music, phone, SMS, and contacts just like the mentioned Apple product. I wonder if the LG Superphone series got similarities with the Samsung and Apple products as well..

“It’s no coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging,” an Apple representative said. “This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple’s intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.”

To make it more interesting, Samsung is a major supplier of components for Apple products like displays and processors. Cool huh?

With this problem going on, I will not be surprised if they want to bring in the MacBook Air against the Samsung Series 9 notebook to the mix. What do you think? Is Apple doing this to hold down Samsung or is there really some infringing rights going on?
