“Rio” No.1 at the US Box-Office

2011’s best animated film “Rio” debuted last weekend with $40 million at the US box-office, which is the best for 2011 as of now, and at the international box-office, “Rio” soared to $128.1 million on second weekend.

On the other hand, the horror movie “Scream 4,” landed last weekend at no. 2 with $19.28 million.

No LRT/MRT This Holy Week

On April 21 to April 24, 2011, the operation of LRT and MRT will be temporarily shut down due to Lenten Season, according to Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).

LRTA Administrator Rafael Rodriguez said that aside from abstinence in Holy Week, they will take advantage of these days by repairing and maintaining their facilities, as well as their trains to give efficient and best services to their passengers.

The operation will resume on April 25, 2011 around 5:00 am.

Unemployed Filipinos Continue to Increase

Despite of the recovering economy that Philippines is facing today since its struggles way back 2008, many Filipinos in rural areas are still jobless, poor, hungry and vulnerable, according to a report from the Social Watch Philippines (SWP).

As of date, unemployed Filipinos are numbered to 2.86 million.  People between 15 to 24 years of age are forced to stop their studies, instead striving to sustain their daily needs.  Some of them are facing early family obligations due to early marriage, parent’s inability to work, and others.

Lucky to those who are living in areas like Metro Manila and other provinces nearby because of lot of employment opportunites compared to rural areas, particularly in Muslim region in which they are struggling for decent homes, education, and health facilities.

Today, the estimated number of Filipinos reaches to 92 million, that’s why Philippines is the 12^th most populous country in the world. In reality, we should now feel the progress in our economy because it was one of the platforms (promises) of the politicians who made it during the May 2010 elections.
